August

August was a crazy month.  Having a semester end is always nuts and this was no different.  Add to that - my niece, Kaylie, got baptized, we spent a week in Cali, continued to work and study and have a social life, all while trying to live like normal people.  Yeah, it's a crazy life we have here.  But I need to update on the fun parts of this month, so here goes!

First off, Kaylie's baptism was great.  It was so fun to be able to take a short trip to Cali to be a part of her special day.  I love being involved in the craziness of family events - of course, until it's all over and I'm more pooped than before my "vacation."  But I love being able to spend time with my family, since I don't have the option of seeing them more.  Here are a few pictures from that night.

After I came back from California for the baptism, we finally finished up the semester, and celebrated with some of the gals from class with lunch at Costa Vida!  Here we are!

After getting back from California the first time and taking all of my finals for school, Ben & I headed back to California for a week-long trip.  It was nice to get away and be around my family.  I miss not being close to them.  But the visits are always worth it!  We took some family pictures since we were all together one day while we visited.  It was pretty priceless attempting to take pictures with a million people.  But, we did end up getting a decent picture.  What do you think?  Pretty good looking family, eh?

Here are a few other ones from that day...

All in all, it was a great get-away.  Love visiting and spending time with all the crazy people at home.  Can't wait to go back!  Or maybe we can convince some people to come visit us!!  =]

Mom's Visit

A few weeks ago, my mom came and visited us.  It was awesome.  She spent like 5 full days with just me (and Ben too, but mostly me).  If you know my mom at all, you know it’s rare to get time alone with her, so I felt pretty dang spoiled while she was here.  We went shopping, ate yummy food and just had fun.  Luckily, I got a few pictures while she was here, so here’s a brief overview of our week.

The first day she was here, we went to Tucanos (after she came in for a cleaning at my school).  Tucanos is DELICIOUS.  Ben had a free birthday meal, since his birthday is this month, so we took advantage of that and ate an awesome meal there.  Afterwards, we walked around the Riverwoods and looked at some of the shops there.  Here’s Ben & I at the toy store with really cute hats on.  Thanks for the cute pic mom!  Haha

Afterwards, we went back to elementary school and spent the rest of the night at the arcade - the nickelcade to be specific.  We played video games, skee ball, and lots of other dorky games.  Here’s Ben & mom playing some space game.  I scored the jackpot the first two times I played this that night – yeah, be impressed.

On Wednesday, mom came to school to finish her cleaning and she brought lunch to me after.  Once I was finished with classes, she took me to work and met most of my coworkers.  Since I was stuck there the rest of the night, she went out with Ben.

On Thursday, I had a little break from school, so we decided to go to lunch.  We went to this crepe place in Provo, and it was delicious.  We had to take pictures of our food because they looked so good, and tasted just as good!  We had a southwest chicken crepe as well as two dessert ones, one that was called the Break Up.  That one was so good, I think it would make a break up feel better!

Friday, I had the whole day off, so it was great.  We ran errands, went shopping and spend the day together.  We finished it off with Texas Roadhouse for dinner and some Modern Family episodes when we got home.  It was a nice, relaxing day spent out and about in Provo.  Haha.  Oh Provo…

Saturday, mom had her flight back home, so we spend part of the day in Salt Lake.  We went to City Creek and looked around, ate Kneaders for lunch (which was pretty dang good) and topped it all off with some fudge from the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. We took lots of pictures this day, so here are some of the cuter ones!

It was a really fun week.   I’m so glad that I got to spend so much time with my mom, since I don’t get to see her as much as everyone else does.  I can’t wait for another visit – maybe next time dad will come too! =]]

Holiday

Last week was pretty eventful – at least for us!  Haha.  Wednesday was the 4th of July, and after I worked all day, we tried to enjoy the holiday.  Ben & I went and walked around the carnival-ish thing in downtown Provo, where it was very hot.  We went to Café Rio for dinner (I know – how American of us) then watched fireworks at BYU.  Here’s a picture of us waiting for the show to start.

On Friday, we also had a fun, busy day.  Chris & Emily are moving to Arizona like tomorrow, so we spent the day with them.  (What’s with all of our friends going to Arizona??  Stupid state.)  Anyway, we went hiking to Stewart Falls up Provo Canyon, and it was pretty fun.  It was a really pretty waterfall, and I haven’t hiked since I hiked the “Y” freshman year, so it was fun to do that again.  Here are some pictures.

After we were done hiking, we cleaned up and went mini golfing – this time with Spencer & Christina as well.  Each couple was a team and we lost – but Ben & I didn’t get mad at each other, so I call that a win!

Following mini golf, we went to Happy Sumo for dinner.  Emily worked there so we got a sweet deal.  Sushi isn’t really my thing, but I was a sport and tried it…and it wasn’t horrible.  I don’t think I’d ever choose to eat it again, but it was a good experience for me, and it was fun to eat with everyone.  Here we all are outside the restaurant.  Nick & Erica joined us for dinner – our party just kept getting bigger and bigger as the day went on!

After dinner, we went to Menchie’s to get frozen yogurt.  As always, the frozen yogurt was delicious.  But the best part about Menchie’s was the body builder bug we saw.  This gigantic fly landed on Nick’s back and it was super gross.  When it landed on the ground, we put a yogurt cup over it so it wouldn’t fly around us anymore, and it stated moving the cup!  It was super creepy, yet hilarious.  Someone commented how it reminded them of Toy Story when the toys are crossing the street under the cones, and it was TOTALLY like that.  I wish I got a picture of it!  It was honestly the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while, and it was the best way to end the day!

Too Cute

I had to do a separate post for this, because it cracks me up.  So while I was home, I was trying to get a good picture of Rachel and she was being uncooperative.  Already stubborn as a newborn – what the heck??  Anyway, here are the attempts to get a good picture.

And finally some good ones!  =]

Cali Trip =]

So, this is super late, but hey, at least I’m updating this thing!  School and work have taken over my life again, but lots more so this time, so that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it!

Anyways, over the break in April, Ben & I were able to spend a week in California with my family.  It was great.  We were both SO sick of Provo (probably more so me) and getting out was awesome.  So here’s an overview of that week.

So, since I live in Utah, I have to go all out when I visit to maintain the favorite aunt status.  So, this visit, I brought toothbrushes and toothpaste for all the kids to keep and brought fluoride varnish to “paint” on the kids teeth.  Yes, I know – that’s what I get for going to dental hygiene school.  Anyway, the kids were pretty excited to get their teeth painted.  I know, I’m awesome.  Helping their teeth AND making them happy – hence the favorite aunt status.  Here are some pictures of the kids all rounded up in the bathroom to get their teeth painted.  It was fun!

Carter and Logan have started playing baseball, so of course I had to go to a game.  It was so cute watching them run the bases, hit the ball, and make plays.  Here they are in their uniforms with me.

And dad watching the game with Austin.
On the Sunday we visited, we were lucky to be able to go to Rachel’s baby blessing.  Rachel is Jennette’s new baby girl.  Kalita also had a new baby girl – Karly.  I love babies.  It was so fun to see them.  Anyway, here are some pictures from that day.

Some of the fam at the baby blessing

Juli & Johnny (I made them bend down so I could get a good picture - stupid Juli who's taller than me)

David & Karly

Mini me - lucky girl =]

Going home to visit also means lots of eating out.  And lots of eating treats.  So of course I gain like 10 lbs.  But it’s ok, because then I become a college student again and eat pasta roni most of the time.  So it evens out =]

La Tolteca - one of the family's favorites

BJ's - classic Cali

On Tuesday, I had to get a little procedure done on my head.  The dermatologist thought I had a cyst in my head and I wanted it out – because a big bump on my head is super annoying.  Well, it ended up it was just a bony structure, but I still ended up with stitches above my ear.  And a sore head, headache, fatigue – all the good stuff.  So we ended up staying a day longer than planned – silver lining!  Haha.  It was great.

Here are some other pictures from the week.

Anyway, the week was super fun.  I was glad I was able to see my family again and spend time some with them.  Can't wait to visit again!

P.S. On our drive home (while I was feeling yucky), we saw a rainbow!  It was pretty.
